Music at Heart offers staff CPD training in Early Years Music Leadership to nurseries, schools and early years settings. Using the Kodály approach to music education, we design and deliver high quality music classes and staff training for anyone working with children ages 0-7.
We seek to address the need for musical and pedagogical development, alongside active music-making – recognising music’s key importance in enriching the curriculum and in its wider benefits to overall wellbeing in childhood and in later life.
We believe a quality music education is fundamental to a child’s early development and are passionate about improving access to outstanding provision; the Kodály approach is accessible to all, as we use the voice as the main instrument, and offers non-specialists an effective way of developing their own musical understanding and their capacity to teach music to others.
Our Early Years Music Leadership CPD programme for staff supports your team to develop their skills and confidence in leading songs, rhymes and singing games with the children, enabling your nursery or school to meet and exceed the government’s National Plan for Music Education.
Music has been proven to have a plethora of benefits, including:
- social and emotional development
- cognitive and linguistic development and perhaps most importantly
- the ability to bring joy, release inner emotions in a positive way and find our own unique voice through singing
At Music at Heart we believe that every child has unlimited potential, that environment nurtures growth and that musical ability starts early. Our classes and training emphasise key principles such as repetition, simplicity, a child-led approach, structure and routine, joy and fun.
Our training costs includes an in person workshop for staff as well as ongoing musical development support, access to our resources, promotion on our website, planning documentation for your nursery/school to link to the National Plan for Music Education and a certificate of professional development for all your staff.

What early years professionals say…
As a small, independent Nursery and provider of excellence in the Early Years, we were eager to secure Music at Heart as a training provider for our whole staffing team’s continuous professional development. Caitlin & Carolyn, “musical magicians”, well and truly shared their magic and enthused our team with passion, knowledge and excitement.
We know the power of music, and our experience was transformative; we never knew we could sing so beautifully! For weeks since [the training], our team have shared a consistent approach to nurturing our Nursery Community’s “musicality”.
We are delighted to continue to share an open conversation and partnership [with Music at Heart] moving forward and hope to collaborate on further projects for our children and families. Thank you, Caitlin & Carolyn – you are both exceptional in not only providing music for children and families, but also empowering educators in enhancing their teachings. – Amy Bell, Operations Manager at Best Family Childcare.
