Dear families,
I am so excited to bring Music at Heart to Leeds after its first successful chapter in York.
Having been a teacher for many years, I recently became a mum and it shook up all my ideals as an educator! I have always believed in the simplicity of ‘alternative’ approaches to education and seen how positive they are for children’s development, particularly in the 0-7 age range when children are just settling into their world. Now as my maternity leave comes to an end, it feels like the perfect time to branch off and create a music school for little people founded in the Kodály Approach to Music Education, where all my passion lies.
As a new parent, I couldn’t find a music group for my baby which fed my soul as a classical musician, whilst also being a safe space where I could genuinely connect with other adults. My favourite groups had social time built in or involved doing something for me as well as my baby. Other groups I loved offered cups of tea or started with a few minutes of mindful breathing, which really helped everyone center themselves and stay sane after a (usually) very long night! I hope that Music at Heart can be this space for you and your family, with small group sizes, a homely feel to every group and quality music-making which helps you take that deep breath and feel connected to something bigger.
I plan to start in a small, organic way and see where it goes…over time my hope is that Music at Heart will grow into a little hub of joyful musical connectivity so that all of our children can truly develop that lifelong love of music and be part of a genuine community. For the moment, I am still a nearly-full-time mum and planning to work just 1 day per week on a Friday, but in time I can see this growing as our family grows.
I very much look forward to meeting and welcoming you and your child to our classes in September!
